This document contains a specification of causes used to pass information regarding the result of operations on a Service Access Point (SAP) within the Protocol Stack (PS). There is only one cause type, which is used globally, throughout the protocol stack.

As a document specifying a common type and common constants, this document is a part of the set of include-documents existing for the protocol stack. The relationship between these documents can be seen in Figure 1.

Figure 1 - Hierarchical inclusion of type and constant definitions

All causes used within the protocol stack are defined in this document1, and included from here where the causes are used in SAPs.

From the cause_ctrl value it is possible to determine if the cause value originates from the network or the UE. If the cause originates from the network the cause_ctrl values is below is_from_nw (don't forget that the PREFIX is added in front of the value). If the cause originated from the UE the cause_ctrl value is between is_from_nw and is_from_ue.
